With this so-called summer upon us, the Barton Web site and e-mail updates will take a break until sometime in August. The Council wishes all Barton families a safe, relaxing and dry summer.
The third in a series of Town Hall Meetings with Superintendent Peebles is scheduled for next Tuesday, June 21, from 6-7:30 PM at Burroughs School (1601 W 50th St). With the Superintendent very much in the news lately, this will be a good opportunity for members of the Barton community to meet her in person.
There are a couple of back-to-school events you will want to get on your calendar for this fall:
Next year’s “Meet Your Teacher” Social is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, from 3-4 PM. Letters identifying your child’s teacher for students in grades K-5 will be sent home later this summer. Next year’s uppers students (those currently in grades 6 and 7) will receive their schedule of three year-long classes at the “meet your teacher” social in August.
That same day, August 31, is the day of the Before School Family Picnic. For the second year in a row, the Leadership Council will sponsor a Family Picnic/Potluck before school begins in the fall. The family picnic will be from 5 PM to 7:30 PM, and will take place at Beard’s Plaisance on the west side of Lake Harriet. Areas in the picnic site will be set up to help families meet other parents and students from the same classroom. Watch for additional details in the August newsletter that is mailed to homes.
School starts September 6th for grades 1-8 September 8th for kindergartners.

Emmie's New Clothes" is a remake of the Emperor's New Clothes. The message is "Be who you are!". It's lively and sure to make you smile. The play is directed and written by Heidi Rich, Barton parent. "The Fizz" will play Sly and the Family Stone tunes... and sound close to the real thing! They sing favorite tunes from the 70's such as: Everyday People, Stand, Everybody is a Star. The choreography is amazing with 50 dancers of all ages (Barton students, staff and parents). The play is 30 minutes. Following the June 2 evening performance, "The Fizz" will share some of their original songs and lively Beatles tunes. Get ready to "Twist and Shout" and have some fun! Whee!
With fall school activities already on the schedule, you might want to know that the district-wide calendar is available at the district Web site.
