Kids Voting Needs Volunteers
This note from Kids Voting Minneapolis:
Make A Civic-Minded Contribution to Your Community
Election Day is nearing and Kids Voting Minneapolis still needs 200 volunteers to adopt and staff 50 Minneapolis polling sites so that K-12th grade students can cast their ballot at their neighborhood polling place on November 8th. Ballots are printed (Find them online at: http://www.kidsvotingminneapolis.org/teens/sample-ballot.html) and more teachers than ever have been discussing this election in their classrooms. Your help is needed now!
Volunteers staff a polling site for three-hour shifts. There are three shifts: 6:30- 9:30 am, 2:30-5:30 pm, and 5:30- 8:30 pm. Individuals age 16 and older can volunteer. “Adopt-a-precinct’ by recruiting three volunteers (your friends, coworkers, neighbors, book club, church group) willing to staff a particular polling site. Kids Voting Minneapolis, in cooperation with the Minneapolis Elections Office, will supply training, Election Day ballots, supplies and written instructions.
Elect to get involved! For more information and to sign up go to:www.kidsvotingminneapolis.org, email kvmpls@gmail.com or call Marilyn at 922-4007.
Kids Voting Minneapolis, begun in 2004, is a nonpartisan organization seeking to address low voter turnout of 18-24 year olds by educating and engaging our next generation (kindergarten through 12 graders) and their families in voting. Nearly 200,000 Minnesotans between the ages of 18 and 24 did not vote on November 2, 2004! Kids Voting Minneapolis combines learn-by-doing civic leadership curriculum, available to every school in Minneapolis, with the opportunity for K-12th grade students to begin the habit of going to their polling place with their parents to “vote” in city, state, and federal elections.
Let’s assist our next generation… Vote Young, Vote Forever.
