Light the Fire Within

Olympians Scott Bjugstad (1984 Men’s Hockey) and Karyn Bye-Dietz (1998 and 2002 Women’s Hockey) spoke with Barton students on Wednesday morning. 

Scott talked about his dream to play on his high school team and how he ended up playing for many years with the best players in hockey despite many obstacles.  Scott’s 1984 team did not win a medal, but he said it was the journey to the Olympics where his dreams were realized.  His message to the kids was to believe in their dreams. “If you don’t believe, you can’t succeed!”

Karyn told of being the only girl on her high school team and setting new goals for herself every year. Her message for the students was to “have a dream, believe in yourself, set goals for yourself, and accept people for who they are.”
