1st & 2nd Grade Camping

Dsc_0030_1 Kristen, Christina and Dawn's 1st and 2nd grade classrooms went on a camping trip May 18th and 19th.  Wonderful memories were made and spirits were high.  There was a bit of rain  off and on, but it didn't spoil the fun.  There were lots of great crafts and activities, lots of hikes in the woods, nature observations, journal writing, quiet time, and singing around the fire (of course with S'mores).   Nobody was in any hurry to come home from the great adventure and bonding experience they had all enjoyed.

Thanks to all the parents, teachers and administration for their help and support of this great Barton tradition.  We are all very lucky to have such a great opportunity. Click here to enjoy more pictures.

Clean Water Fair

Rain4 Barton’s new community rain garden was unveiled on Saturday, May 20 at the Clean Water Fair.  John Klein’s  Science class helped to create this new garden located on the southwest corner of the school.  It is part water cleaner, part educational tool, and part beautiful addition to Barton School.  The fair also included a workshop on rain gardens, assembly of rain barrels to take home, and learning about water quality from the 7th and 8th grade students who had done water quality research projects.  The program was made possible through two generous grants from the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District, and the hard work of East Harriet volunteers.
