Barton Welcomes New Staff

Here is a brief introduction to the remainder of our new (to Barton) teachers and staff.  The other five new staff members were profiled in September.  Click here to see their introductions.

SharonSharon Tyree
Sharon joined the office staff this year. Her job includes spending a lot of time dealing with checks and student data. She is still trying to find her way through all of the varied duties and responsibilities. She has worked for Minneapolis Public Schools since 1980, with twenty-seven years at Armatage while concurrently working at other schools. She likes to travel and enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time with her four grandchildren. She and her husband have recently downsized their home. Their two grown children are both teachers.

Joyce_20071005_0118_2 Joyce Vanderscheuren
All Minneapolis Public Schools now have a Literacy Coach, and Joyce fills this new position at Barton. A literacy coach supports and collaborates with teachers to meet the literacy goals and needs of the school. She is happy to be here and feels lucky that Barton already has a good culture established with our use of literature circles and the Lucy Calkins writing curriculum in the primary grades. She has four K-12 teaching licenses and has taught a wide variety of students and subjects in her career. She lives in our southwest Minneapolis community with her family and golden doodle named Pete.

Cynthia_20071011_0214 Cynthia Wilson
Cynthia is our new teacher working with 5th and 6th grade and kindergarten English language learners (ELL). She splits her day between Barton and Lyndale School. She has previously taught world languages and ELL at preschool (Montessori primary), middle school, high school and college levels. She speaks Japanese and French and is learning Spanish. She is a life long learner that enjoys variety and the challenges of teaching new grades and subjects. Cynthia likes reading and walking around the lakes. Her daughter is in kindergarten at a Chinese immersion school in St. Paul.

Mike_2 Mike Robinson
Mike is our new band teacher. He splits his week between Barton, Seward and Folwell.  He is really busy now, with lots of new beginners at all three schools. Mike has taught Band and Orchestra in Minneapolis schools for 12 years. He comes from a musical family, his dad is a semi-professional vibraphonist.  Mike has always learned new instruments quickly. When he’s bored, he plays an instrument!  You might catch Mike playing bass for the Dakota Valley Symphony or for the Bloomington Symphony.  Parents who want to contact him should feel free to email Mike at michael.robinson@mpls.k12.mn.us.

Lisa_barton Lisa Erwin
Lisa is our new food services manager. For the past fifteen years, she has been working in food services at schools in northeast Minneapolis. She is a busy mom with two daughters and has been spending a lot of time lately on the soccer fields. Her favorite meal? It’s turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy.
