Big River Journey Field Trip
Katrina's, Mary's & Matt's 5th & 6th grade classrooms took part in science and heritage learning while traveling down the Mississippi River on a beautiful October day. While cruising down the river, students participated in on-board learning stations that included river birds, aquatic invertebrates, river geology, adopt-a-river crime lab (pollution), river ecosystem, and piloting riverboats. They began on Harriet Island and cruised to Fort Snelling, where they docked and hiked up to the park center. Then they participated in one of three activities: Snelling State Park Artifacts, 1872 Soldier Hike, or the Floodplain Forest Hike. Click here to see more photos from this fantastic field trip!
