Welcoming, Honoring, and Connecting Event

The Minnesota Parent Center/MN PIRC, is offering "Welcoming, Honoring, and Connecting," a free event for parents of Minnesota children. On May 1, a free dinner celebrates parents' dedication to helping their children succeed in school. On May 2, a free conference explores ways parents can support their children's education. Both days feature an exciting speaker; the conference includes helpful workshops that will inspire parents to help their children learn in new ways. Advance registration and application are required. Limited stipends are available for child care and travel, if requested.

Minnesota Parent Center is Minnesota's Parental Information and Resource Center (MN PIRC), a federally funded project that works statewide to build effective parental involvement in Title I schools. For more information, visit http://www.pacer.org/mpc/index.asp, or call 952.838.9000.

Wolf Ridge Environmental Trip

20080326_0016  Here are just some of the life experiences and great memories the middles students can claim after their three day trip to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center in Finland, Minnesota:

  • chickadee perched on your head and eating from your hand
  • jumping off a 25 foot high platform and zip-lining down to the ground
  • catching your teachers laughing uncontrollably
  • losing your boot in deep snow, and digging for 30 minutes to find it
  • learning to use a compass and find a place based on orienteering instructions
  • noticing a white-tailed deer track between your snow shoes
  • getting stuck on the tight rope and having your friends give you the courage to walk to the end
  • learning how to cross country ski

6th Graders Receive Award in District Math Competition

6th_grade_math_photo Seven 6th grade "mathletes" spent an entire Saturday morning back in March competing in the annual Minneapolis Public Schools district math competition.   The very happy smiles in the photo show the student's enthusiasm for this event and their pride at winning third place in the team competition!  Congratulations 6th graders on your success in the competition and your hard work during and after school preparing for the event!  Thanks to parent coaches Jeanne Arp and Karen Fassett-Carman.
